I am rather incensced that I did not get to go bowling for several reasons:

a) because when it came down to it I probably could have - I mean, I got out of the meeting at 7:45 (which was way early). I guess I just didn't try hard enough to get into touch with people.

b) it probably means that there will be little to no hanging out going on over the weekend. We don't hang out as much anymore and this will probably fill our quota for this weekend.

In other news:

I seriously think the comparisons between the end of the roman republic and the current state of the us are scary. we still have people like Gore who are willing to let go of power for the good of the Republic, but we're starting to see the sort of breakdown they saw then. I think the essential character of it is essentially that the traditions stay there, just that no one cares about them or follows the rules - they just do whatever they want. and i think that's starting to come into effect - I can really see some major fights between different branches of government. Hell, to be honest, I'm surprised it didn't start 40 years ago during nixon's time - sure, he was a bastard, really just another example of the breakdown, but HE GAVE UP THE TAPES TO THE SUPREME COURT. he still obeyed the law of the land on some level. Soon that will stop and we'll have civil war.

I can only hope I have the ability and the will to be a Cato or a Brutus.
