If there was a president of Anime I would vote for Daryl Surat

Lately I've been listening a lot to this track, "In Anticipation of Your Insight into the Future". It's basically about 5 to 7 japanese music tracks (including the getter robo intro, which is awesome), book-ended by two intros read by, among others, Clarissa Graffeo of Anime World Order fame set to classical music. It's basically awesome.

I really like a lot of Patrick Macias' stuff, both in his blog and his books. I like his style of writing a lot, there's this aesthetic to it that really just i think is really cool. The whole Ministry of Darkness thing... it's really great. The only book I have of his is the Japanese Pulp Cinema one, which is both really great as a resource and a really interesting field in a lot of ways. I should get more - especially Japanese Schoolgirl Inferno, that will prolly be awesome.

I've also been thinking about why, exactly, I think Daryl Surat is so awesome. It's becoming dangerous, it's reached epic proportions. I like all the people on all the podcasts I listen to (well, I'm pretty sure Rym and Scott are at least a little arrogant, and Gerald is a bit of a dick). But Daryl Surat is incredibly funny and also incredibly knowledgeable and also gives really good reviews. I don't know, I guess I can't explain it. whatever.

We've been reading Hemingway in class, and that's another thing the aesthetic of which I like. It's just really spare and sparse, but it provides this really bright picture of just life. I like the picture that it paints, in many ways, and I like the way it paints it. That symbolism stuff is just gravy.
